Gecko Massage Story: Directly from the Owner, Shannon Carlin
In 1997 I started Gecko Massage Supply Co. I was a student in my second year of Massage College and supplies were hard to come by in Winnipeg. My little store sold products such as Stronglite equipment and anything needed in a clinic. I met a Chemist soon after and the reality of manufacturing our own products was born. We started making our own portable tables as well.
Thank you for visiting this very important page. As the manufacturer of Canada’s highest quality
massage products, we need to bring your attention to the risks of laundry drying.
WE KNOW LAUNDRY! We’ve had a lot of feedback over the years and have a great track record for
keeping sheets clean and more importantly eliminating risks of fire. Although rare, it is possible that
laundry can catch fire but it’s usually from a few factors that you can safeguard against.
Please read and practice these safety tips.
– Wash in cold water. Use a good quality detergent that has enzymes that break down oils in cold
water. (personally, we use a scoop of Oxyclean in the load to keep whites bright and eliminate
stains and oils)
– When you wash in warmer temperatures the fabric strands expand and absorb oils, potentially
trapping them in the fibers which allows for buildup. If your sheets are heavier than they should
be then this is likely the reason. This is more common in synthetic fibers like poly/cotton blends.
It can be risky if you allow build up in these sheets. Natural fibers like those in Cotton Flannel
decompose which mostly eliminates build up. No matter how well massage lubricates are
designed to break down in water, there will always be trace ingredients even after washing.
– Drying. If you are leaving for the day and the dryer is still running, set the cycle to leave the load
still damp. NEVER leave a load drying and unattended. This is especially important when leaving
for the day. I know laundry never ends at a busy clinic but leave the drying for the next day
when you are close by. Use a dryer sheet to reduce static.
– Clean your dryer’s lint trap after every load, especially with Cotton Flannel sheets. Once a month
clean your venting to the outside. For peace of mind deep clean within the dryer to remove an
excess build up of lint once a year. This might mean having a dryer service person pull it apart
and vacuum.
– When your load is dry, immediately take out of the dryer, fluff to remove and electrical build up
and fold. NEVER leave a load of hot sheets piled right from the dryer while hot. Electrical static
can discharge and a sheet could smolder and catch fire.
